Resetting a Windows user password

In this guide, we will show you how to reset the password of another user on Windows. This is useful if you have forgotten a user's password or if another user has changed the password and you need to reset it.

Prerequisites

  • Windows 10, 8 or 7
  • Administrator access

    key combination to open the "Run" dialog box.

  • Type 'lusrmgr.msc' and press the Enter key. The "User Accounts" window will open.
  • Select "Users" in the left-hand pane.
  • Find the user whose password you want to reset and click on that user.
  • Click on "Password" in the menu.
  • Type in a new password and confirm it. Then click "OK" to change the password.

Tip

If you want to reset the password of the current user, you can also reset the password through the Control Panel. To do this, click "Start" > "Control Panel" > "User Accounts" > "Change or remove password".
